RALEIGH – The following are highlights from this week at the N.C. Department of Transportation. The stories below are also featured in NCDOT Now, the department's weekly newscast.
Disadvantaged Business Outreach
This past week, NCDOT staff met with small and disadvantaged firms across the state to talk about the department’s contracting opportunities.
These meetings were part of a series of outreach events started by NCDOT in June 2021. Since this initiative began, more than 500 people from hundreds of firms have participated in the outreach events to learn how to work with the department.
For those that missed this month's meetings, the department has already scheduled the next round of outreach events for October.
HBCU Interns and Fellows Trip
This week, NCDOT interns and fellows from North Carolina’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities rode the train to Charlotte to learn about the department’s role in the future of transportation.
NCDOT leadership accompanied the interns and fellows as they traveled from Cary’s Amtrak station to Charlotte, watched presentations by department staff, and visited Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
This trip allowed the participants to see NCDOT’s roles in building, maintaining and supporting public transit, pedestrian walkways, airports and the state's railway system.
