MCGEE’S CROSSROADS – The public is invited to attend a meeting next week and provide feedback on a proposal to widen two miles of N.C. 210 off Interstate 40 in Johnston County.
The N.C. Department of Transportation proposes to widen the highway to four lanes with a raised median between N.C. 50 and Raleigh Road. Most of this stretch currently has one travel lane in each direction.
The proposal includes upgrading the N.C. 210 interchange at I-40 (Exit 319) and installing
reduced conflict intersections, which redirect drivers from a driveway or side street into turning right onto the main corridor. The design improves safety and allows people to reach their destinations more quickly.
The project is intended to alleviate congestion, improve safety and traffic flow and plan for anticipated growth in traffic volumes in a fast-growing community.
Meeting details
The open house will be from 5-7 p.m. on Dec. 13 at the McGee’s Crossroads Middle School gymnasium. People can drop in at any time during those hours to ask the project team questions and submit comments on the proposed design. Alternately, anyone may view the proposed design maps and submit feedback on the
NCDOT project page.

Comments collected by Jan. 13 will be considered toward the final designs. Construction is scheduled to start in 2029.
