Closures, Shifts Ahead for I-40 Project

GARNER – Road and ramp closures and a lane shift are scheduled for the week ahead as part of the Interstate 40 improvements project between Southeast Raleigh and Clayton.

From 11 p.m. Tuesday to 5 a.m. Wednesday, crews plan to close the ramp from I-40 East to U.S. 70 Business East to prepare for an upcoming traffic shift on the interstate. During this closure, drivers wanting to head east toward Clayton will still take Exit 306, but will be directed to take the first exit toward White Oak shopping center and do a U-turn to access U.S. 70 Business East.

Crews are also planning a short traffic shift that will require closing the ramp and spur from U.S. 70 Business to I-40 West from 11 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, and nightly closures of the I-40 West ramp to U.S. 70 Business East (Exit 306B) from midnight to 6 a.m. starting Friday night and ending Monday morning. These closures will enable crews to safely shift traffic toward the median on I-40 West between U.S. 70 Business and Jones Sausage Road.

Signed detours will be in place to help drivers reach their destinations.

These traffic events are weather dependent and subject to change. Drivers are urged to remain cautious throughout the work zone and factor the detours into their trips.
