CLAYTON – The construction of a Johnston County roundabout will require a series of road closures this spring.
A contractor is constructing the circular design where Cornwallis Road intersects Josephine/North Shiloh roads south of Clayton to improve safety and traffic flow. The project will require some upcoming weekend road closures.
Below is the schedule where the following road meets the intersection:
- Close Josephine Road from 6 a.m. May 13 until 6 a.m. May 15;
- Close Cornwallis Road from 6 a.m. May 20 until 6 a.m. May 22; and
- Close North Shiloh Road from 6 a.m. June 3 until 6 a.m. June 5.
The closures are needed for the installation or relocation of utility lines underground.
The work is weather dependent, and could be postponed.
For each closure, NCDOT has posted the detour at its DriveNC.gov website; people can search under “Johnston County" for a list of area closures.
Construction of the $3 million roundabout began in January, and is expected to be completed by this fall.
