LEXINGTON – The N.C. Department of Transportation will reduce lanes of a Davidson County highway for one week for a maintenance project starting next week.
Beginning June 12, a single lane of I-85 South will be closed daily from 7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. at alternating locations between mile marker 88 and 89. The closure is necessary to allow crews to repair voids under concrete slabs along the interstate. Crews will pump concrete grout under the slabs to prevent them from moving out of alignment.
Work will only take place on weekdays and is expected to be complete by June 16, weather permitting. Message boards will be placed 1-2 miles ahead of the new traffic pattern to alert drivers.
Motorists should plan for delays due to the new traffic pattern and use extra caution when driving through the work zone.
