U.S. 401 Project Brings New Traffic Pattern

ROLESVILLE – State transportation contractors are planning a closure followed by a new traffic pattern as part of the project to improve U.S. 401 in Wake and Franklin counties.

At 9 a.m. Tuesday, crews plan to install a temporary closure that will restrict N.C. 96 traffic from being able to cross over U.S. 401. This pattern is expected to be in place only through Thursday morning, allowing crews to finish removing asphalt and pour a concrete island. Until that time, drivers on N.C. 96 will be directed to make right turns onto U.S. 401 and use the next turnaround point to return to N.C. 96.

Simultaneously Tuesday morning, all left turn movements at the same intersection are set to close permanently. Drivers wanting to take a left from U.S. 401 will need to continue straight and use the next turnaround to return to N.C. 96. The same applies for drivers wanting to take a left from N.C. 96 onto U.S. 401. Permanent signage will be in place to guide drivers through the new traffic pattern.

All the work is weather dependent and subject to change.

Drivers should be cautious as crews will be working in the roadway and anticipate the new configuration.
