FAYETTEVILLE – Emergency repairs are underway this morning where heavy rainfall overnight formed a sinkhole on Raeford Road in western Fayetteville.
The N.C. Department of Transportation is working with the contractor, Highland Paving Co., on the repairs to the eastbound section of Raeford Road near 71st High School. The westbound lanes of Raeford Road remain closed to make room for the heavy equipment being used to repair the roadway.
NCDOT officials anticipate crews will be able to safely reopen all lanes of Raeford Road by this evening.
Drivers should use Graham Road and Strickland Bridge Road as a detour, or seek other alternative routes.
Highland Paving Co. is under a contract by NCDOT to upgrade this section of Raeford Road with new storm drainage systems, concrete curb and gutters and improved medians.
