​HILLSBOROUGH – A contractor for the North Carolina Department of Transportation is working nightly to complete N.C. 86 bridge repairs.
Repairs were required due to the damage the bridge sustained from a collision on May 31. The contractor was able to begin work on July 13 after facing weather related delays.
So far, the contractor has used a special heating technique to straighten the damaged bridge beam and has conducted other repair work. The work is expected to be complete in the next week if weather cooperates.
Until then, N.C. 86 will remain closed in both directions at Interstate 85. During the closure, I-85 south traffic will be diverted up the exit ramp at N.C. 86 and down the on-ramp. A signed detour will direct N.C. 86 drivers onto I-85.
Drivers should remain alert and obey all posted traffic signs near the work zone.
