MARVIN — N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will close New Town and Marvin Roads at Meadowlark Lane on Monday, Aug. 21 to begin converting the existing intersection to a roundabout. Contractor Blythe Development of (insert town) recently earned the $1.9 million project as the lowest qualified bidder.
The contract allows an eight-week window for crews to build the roundabout, with landscaping and vegetation work continuing through the end of the year.
During construction, drivers will utilize a signed detour along New Town Road, U.S. 521, Ardrey Kell, Marvin, Joe Kerr and Marvin School roads, returning to New Town Road.
Roundabouts improve safety for drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists. They also help reduce the congestion and backups more typical at traditional intersections with stop signs and traffic signals.
