CHARLOTTE – N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will temporarily close the entrance ramp from Statesville Avenue to I-85 South as part of a $15.3 million contract to improve approximately seven miles of I-85 between exits 36 and 42.
The closure is needed to safely remove and rebuild the ramp's existing asphalt surface. The closure will start at 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, remaining in place until 6 a.m. Monday, Oct. 2.
Drivers will follow a marked detour from Statesville Avenue to I-85 North, proceeding to Graham Street (exit 40) where they can exit and access I-85 South. NCDOT will display alerts on nearby overhead message boards when possible in addition to the contractor's portable message signs.
