MURPHY - A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation is scheduled to begin resurfacing operations along Valley River Avenue on Sept. 18.
Crews from APAC/Harrison will work at night from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. over the next four to six weeks milling out old asphalt, installing ADA compliant curb ramps and resurfacing the road from the Connahetta Park Bridge to the intersection of Pleasant Valley Road.
Improvements along this 1.75-mile stretch will require a temporary traffic control to accommodate the night time operations.
This work is part of a $3.9 million contract to improve roads in Cherokee County.
Transportation officials remind drivers to remain alert, watch for workers and obey all posted traffic signs.
