This Week at NCDOT: Fall Litter Sweep, Transportation Award You Can Vote On

RALEIGH The following are highlights from this week at the N.C. Department of Transportation. The stories below are also featured in NCDOT Now, the department's weekly newscast.

Fall Litter Sweep Begins This Weekend

Every April and September the agency asks volunteers across the state to help the state remove litter from roadsides.

Volunteers take time out of their busy schedules and are crucial to keeping our state beautiful and clean.

Volunteers are the backbone of our program, it’s what makes our state so wonderful, and your help is what’s going to make North Carolina successful," said David Harris. Harris is NCDOT's Roadside Environmental Engineer.

NCDOT’s annual litter sweep will run from Sept.16-30.

Over the past two years, NCDOT has collected nearly 20 million pounds of litter. For more details or how you can participate, go to NCDOT Litter Sweep.

Transportation Award You Can Vote On

NCDOT is in the running for the top prizes in the annual America’s Transportation Awards competition, and we need your help to win.

The agency is a top 12 finalist for its advance flood warning system, which enables NCDOT to analyze, map and communicate in real-time any flood risks to roads, bridges and culverts.

The department is competing for the Grand Prize and the People’s Choice Award. The People’s Choice Award goes to the state that gets the most online votes, weighted by the state’s population.

You can vote now across multiple devices and vote online every day through Nov. 14. To cast your ballot, go to the contest webpage.
