ASHEVILLE — N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will continue nightly closures on Interstate 26 this week as weather permits. The closures are part of the ongoing Interstate 26 widening project.
Drivers can expect closures on I-26 East at exit 37 (N.C. 146/Long Shoals Road) on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the next morning. A detour will take motorists along N.C. 146 East to U.S. 25 South, returning to I-26 East at exit 44.
During this time, there will be no access from either direction of N.C. 146/Long Shoals Road to I-26 East, or from N.C. 280 to I-26. The Integrated Corridor Management System will be used to keep green lights longer on the detour routes.
Transportation officials remind drivers to slow down, obey all posted signs and remain alert while driving in work zones.
