GARNER – In preparation for a traffic shift on Jones Sausage Road later this month, N.C. Department of Transportation crews plan to close the Jones Sausage Road bridge over Interstate 40 several times overnight this week.
Weather permitting, the bridge will close 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday, Tuesday and possibly Wednesday nights, enabling crews to safely prepare the ramps for the upcoming conversion to a diverging diamond interchange design.
While ramps to and from I-40 will be open during these times, drivers wanting to cross the bridge will use the following detours:
- Northbound Jones Sausage Road: take I-40 East to Business 70 (Exit 306) to Greenfield Parkway and turn around and follow I-40 West back to Jones Sausage (Exit 303).
- Southbound Jones Sausage Road: take I-40 West to Rock Quarry Road (Exit 300A) and loop back onto I-40 East to access Jones Sausage Road.
This construction work is part of the widening of I-40 between southeast Raleigh and Clayton.
Transportation officials remind drivers to remain alert, obey all posted traffic signs and follow instructions of local law enforcement in active work zones.
