WINSTON SALEM– An N.C. Department of Transportation contractor plans to perform lane closures this weekend as a part of a major traffic shift for the Winston-Salem Northern Beltway project.
Weather permitting, crews will close the left lane of U.S. 52 South near Westinghouse Road and the right lane of U.S. 52 North near Ziglar road Friday at 9 a.m. to start final work to connect N.C. 74 and U.S. 52.
The work on the southbound side will move to a full closure at 9 p.m. and traffic will be detoured at Westinghouse Road to N.C. 65 to reaccess U.S. 52 South. When the closure is removed Saturday morning, traffic will be able to move from U.S. 52 South to N.C. 74 East.
The duration of the northbound lane closure will depend on how quickly crews can complete the connection to N.C. 74. It is anticipated traffic will be able to move from N.C. 74 West to U.S 52 North sometime during the day on Friday.
Throughout the weekend, drivers are urged to avoid the area, if possible, to minimize delays. The department asks drivers to plan accordingly and use caution when traveling through the new traffic patterns.
