RALEIGH - The North Carolina Turnpike Authority is continuing construction of the southern portion of the Complete 540 Project, which will extend the Triangle Expressway (Toll N.C. 540) from N.C. 55 Bypass to Interstate 40.
On or around Dec. 16, project contractors are scheduled to shift traffic off the temporary Exit 54A ramp connection at the southern end of the Triangle Expressway (Toll N.C. 540). Eastbound Toll N.C. 540 traffic desiring to travel northbound on the N.C. 55 Bypass will shift to the final Exit 54A ramp alignment, which connects the existing Triangle Expressway (Toll N.C. 540) to the N.C. 55 Bypass.
In order to switch traffic, temporary intermittent lane closures are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on or around Dec. 16.
Starting at 8 a.m. on or around Dec. 16, Toll N.C. 540 eastbound traffic will experience intermittent lane closures between Exit 55 at Veridea Parkway and Exits 54A and 54B at the N.C. 55 Bypass. The temporary intermittent closures are expected to be in place until 4 p.m. The closures are necessary to add pavement markings to the new ramp connection.
The traffic shift and temporary lane closures are weather dependent. Drivers should slow down, pay extra attention and expect delays when navigating the lane closures and when first navigating the new ramp connection. Signage will be in place directing motorists through the work zone.
Previously announced pipe installation temporary lane closures on the N.C. 55 Bypass scheduled to begin Dec. 4 have been delayed for the foreseeable future.
