SALISBURY – An N.C. Department of Transportation contractor will close a Rowan County Road for nearly 2 years to replace a bridge, starting next week, weather permitting.
On Monday at 8 a.m., Hurley School Road will be closed near U.S. 70 and Statesville Boulevard to allow Smith- Rowe LLC to safely replace the bridge over Northern Southern Railroad.
The new bridge is expected to open to traffic by summer 2025. During the closure, traffic will be detoured to Barringer and Sherrill Ford roads. Local traffic will still be able to access residences on either side of the bridge up to the point of closure.
The construction is expected to take longer than normal due to a waterline on the existing bridge, which must be completely removed and reconstructed.
Drivers are advised to plan for delays due to the detour.
