Eastern Avenue Widening Project in Nash County Is Completed

Eastern Avenue roundabout

This is one of four multilane roundabouts on Eastern Avenue outside Nashville that fully opened to traffic earlier this week.

NASHVILLE – All four lanes of a newly widened Eastern Avenue outside Nashville opened Monday.

The 2.3-mile section stretches from Red Oak Road to the Nash Community College roundabout. This section includes three new roundabouts and a widened roundabout at the college entrance on Eastern Avenue.

Drivers have been using these roundabouts for over a year, but in a single-lane fashion. Now that all lanes have opened into a multilane pattern, drivers should be alert navigating this traffic change until they become more familiar using them.

NCDOT has created this short video on how people can easily and safely navigate a multilane roundabout. People can learn more about why the department installs roundabouts by going to this webpage.

Duke Energy will be installing streetlighting on all four roundabouts to improve visibility. This installation will be made later this year, based on the utility's work schedule.

This section is among the widening work underway in this vicinity, as noted on this NCDOT project page. The following are the estimated timelines to complete the other work:

  • Widening Sunset Avenue and opening its new interchange at Interstate 95: Late 2024
  • Widening North Old Carriage Road between Eastern Avenue and Green Hills Road and replacing the Old Carriage Road bridge spanning U.S. 64: Late 2024
