OTWAY – A section of U.S. 70 in Carteret County is scheduled to be closed next week while the N.C. Department of Transportation makes improvements.
Message boards have been put up to alert residents and business owners the highway over Gillikin Creek in Otway will close April 1. The roadway will reopen to traffic by April 5.
During the closure, NCDOT will replace two failing pipes with one larger one, which is anticipated to improve drainage in the area.
While those who live and work near the site will be able to travel, those who are trying to get around while be detoured to take Otway Farm Road and Gillikin Road.
Drivers should use caution when traveling in the area and allow for extra time.
