PITTSBORO - The Rocky River Bridge is temporarily closed as N.C. Department of Transportation crews conduct a safety inspection of the bridge on Chatham Church Road.
Updates will follow in two weeks after bridge maintenance crews further assess the structural integrity of the 104-year-old bridge.
NCDOT follows the National Bridge Inspections Standards and ensures each bridge is inspected at least every two years.
All bridges go through a natural deterioration process even though each bridge is unique in the way it ages. These inspections help NCDOT identify and schedule bridges for maintenance or replacement.
Motorists are advised to use the following detour route:
- North on Chatham Church Road
- Right on Johnny Shaw Road
- Left on Center Grove Church Road
- Right on Mount View Church Road
- South on U.S. 15/501
- Right on Walter Bright Road
- Right on Wade Bright Road
- Right on Asbury Church Road to Chatham Church Road
