RALEIGH – Ramp and lane closures are set to be installed tonight so crews can safely remove the snow-plowable markers on Interstate 540. This will prepare I-540 for a future paving project set to occur in June.
Starting at 9 tonight, a single right lane closure will be installed on I-540 West from Leesville Road to Glenwood Avenue (U.S. 70). This will expand to a closure of the two right lanes from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. Friday morning.
Also, during this time period, the on-ramp from Leesville Road to I-540 West and the off-ramp from I-540 West to Glenwood Avenue (U.S. 70) West (Exit 4B) will close.
For the Leesville Road on ramp to I-540 closure, traffic will detour to I-540 East to N.C. 50 (Exit 7) back onto I-540 West.
The I-540 off ramp to Glenwood Avenue (Exit 4B) detour will take drivers off the Lumley Road exit to Brier Creek Parkway back to Glenwood Avenue.
Drivers should be cautious as crews will be working alongside the travel lanes in this area and allow extra time for the detours.
