BANNER ELK - A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation has updated next week’s schedule for the N.C. 105 bridge project in Watauga County.
In previous weeks, crews from Wright Brother’s Construction Company Inc. have successfully performed blasting and rock removal operations as work continues to replace the 69-year-old bridge over the Watauga River.
The latest schedule is as follows:
- July 8:
- Crews will perform blasting operations from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. from N.C. 105 to Broadstone Road.
- Intermittent closures will take place during the operations for no more than 30 minutes at a time.
- July 11:
- Beginning at 7 p.m., rock scaling operations will take place along the face of the slope adjacent to the roadway from Broadstone Road and Old Shulls Mill Road.
- Intermittent closures will take place until the full reopening of the road the following morning at 6 a.m. as crews remove rock from the slopes.
- Daily from July 8 through July 12:
- From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., motorists should expect flagging operations and intermittent closures of no more than 15 minutes at a time for hauling and general rock removal as needed.
- Additionally, crews from Blue Ridge Electric will work under a one-lane closure beginning the morning of July 8 continuing primary line work.
- This operation will continue through the week until the work is completed.
