New License and Theft Inspectors Ready to Serve

ROCKY MOUNT – The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles’ License and Theft Bureau held graduation ceremonies Friday for its 30th Basic Inspector Class at DMV Headquarters in Rocky Mount.  Eleven new inspectors will be assigned to various regions of the state and will join 146 other inspectors who primarily investigate vehicle theft, title fraud, driver license and ID card fraud, and vehicle odometer fraud.

“As a judge, I rely on and get to see the hard work and devotion of so many people, and many of those are law enforcement officers like you,” said guest speaker N.C. Appeals Court Judge Donna Stroud. “I know you will take on this role with the same excellence, integrity and deep sense of duty that you had in your prior work in law enforcement.”

The new inspectors are Jeffrey Boykin, Phillip Broughton, Travis Denny, Johnathan Fields, Cheryl Larson, Rickita Mays, Colby McClain, Bryan McCullers, Thomas Vesce, Michael Walker, and Richard Whitlow.

The inspectors enforce the rules and regulations governing vehicle dealers, vehicle safety and emissions inspection stations, vehicle towing and storage facilities, and vehicle repair businesses.

The License and Theft Bureau was created in 1921 by the N.C. General Assembly and celebrated 100 years of service in 2021.
