HERTFORD – The N.C. Department of Transportation is making initial plans for a project to improve safety on approximately 4.5 miles of New Hope Road in Perquimans County.
The improvements, which will include wider travel lanes and shoulders, will run from Woodland Church Road to Woodville Road near Hertford. The project will also relocate existing utilities, replace cross line pipes and reconstruct roadside drainage.
In addition, the project will study changes to intersections along the route. The intersections will be studied for speed compliance, sightlines, signage and roadway geometry. Improvements may include the relocation of curves to increase safety and mobility along the corridor.
Once a more detailed plan is developed, NCDOT will schedule public meetings to gather input from area residents and local officials.
Construction is expected to begin in 2030.
