Contract Awarded to Improve Multiple Roads in Wake County

​RALEIGH – Improvements planned for nearly 10 miles of roadway in Wake County, including two sections of N.C. 42, are set to begin next year.​

The $2.5 million project, funded by the N.C. Department of Transportation, will be managed by Fred Smith Company and include milling, resurfacing, and shoulder reconstruction.

The work will focus on N.C. 42 between U.S. 401 in Fuquay-Varina and the Wake-Harnett County line, as well as between N.C. 55 and Old Stage Road.  Improvements are also planned for 14 sections of secondary roads.

Contractors can begin work as early as spring 2025 with final completion scheduled for fall of 2026.
