WINSTON SALEM – A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation will temporarily close a section of Interstate 40 East in Forsyth County as part of the Winston-Salem Northern Beltway project.
Starting at 12:00 a.m. on Friday night, I-40 East will be closed between Exit 196 (I-74) and Exit 201 (Union Cross Road) until 5:00 a.m. on Saturday morning.
During this time, drivers will be detoured to I-74 and directed to continue to Union Cross Road (Exit 59). From there, they should turn left onto Union Cross Road and proceed to I-40 East.
Then, at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, one lane of I-40 East will be closed between Exit 196 (I-74) and Exit 201 (Union Cross Road). The lane closure will be lifted by 9:00 a.m. Sunday morning.
To avoid the work zone, drivers are encouraged to use U.S. 421 (Salem Parkway).
Motorists should remain cautious and be prepared for potential delays due to detour routes and changes in traffic patterns.
