GOLD HILL – The N.C. Department of Transportation has awarded a $679,870 contract to replace the bridge on Gold Hill Road over Big Bear Creek between Mount Pleasant and Richfield. Contractor APAC Atlantic Inc. earned the contract last month.
Crews will install work zone signage next week and plan to close Gold Hill Road over the creek the week of April 14. A signed detour will be posted for drivers along Gold Hill Road, N.C. 49 and Lowder Road.
The contract calls for the road to reopen by late October. Vegetation establishment and landscaping can continue into spring 2026.
