GREENVILLE - A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation will close various roads in Pitt County beginning tomorrow as part of a full depth reclamation project.
Starting April 21, crews from Barnhill Contracting Co. will close Whichard Cherry Lane Road in an effort to create a new, wider and smoother surface.
The full depth reclamation process involves grinding up and recompacting the existing roadway to form a new, stronger road foundation.
After completing reclamation work, crews will reopen Whichard Cherry Lane Road, then move on to Rams Horn Road and Lewis Dudley Road, closing both one at a time and reopening each as soon as reclamation work is finished. The contractor will come back soon after to place the final pavement layer on each road.
Each road will not be closed until reclamation work on the previous road is completed.
As each road is worked on, it will remain open to local traffic only.
Drivers are encouraged to reduce speed and pay attention to all barricades and work zone signage.
Motorists are directed to use N.C. 30 and U.S. 264 as detour routes around each closure as they occur.
