This Week NCDOT: Click It or Ticket, NC By Train Customer Feedback

RALEIGH – The following are highlights from this week at the N.C. Department of Transportation. The stories below are also featured in NCDOT Now, the department's weekly newscast.

Memorial Day Click It or Ticket

With Memorial Day weekend marking one of the busiest travel times of the year, the North Carolina Department of Transportation is taking steps to keep roads safe and traffic moving.

Most construction related lane closures on interstates and major highways are suspended through Tuesday evening, May 27, to reduce delays and improve safety.

Meanwhile, the Governor’s Highway Safety Program has launched its “Click It or Ticket” campaign, running through June 1. Law enforcement across the state will increase patrols to ensure seat belt compliance.

In 2024, 466 unbuckled drivers died in crashes across North Carolina. Officials urge everyone to drive alert, buckle up, and arrive safely.

NC By Train Customer Feedback

NCDOT is seeking public input on planned improvements and expansion of NC By Train, the state’s growing intercity passenger rail service.

As part of the effort, NCDOT’s Rail Division will host open-house meetings in several cities between Raleigh and Charlotte. Attendees can drop in anytime between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to learn more, speak with staff, and complete a brief survey. The survey is also available online through June 30.

NC By Train continues to see record ridership, with over 720,000 passengers in 2024, a 12% increase from last year. Planned enhancements aim to meet this growing demand and improve the rider experience.
