SHELBY – Another piece of the 18.5-mile Shelby Bypass is open.
The next segment extends the bypass almost five miles, from N.C. 226 to N.C. 150, adding three new interchanges and 12 new bridges within the project corridor.
Drivers will be able to exit the bypass at N.C. 226, N.C. 18 and N.C. 150. Three roundabouts are included at the N.C. 150 interchange to help control the flow of traffic without signalized intersections.
The next sections of the project are already underway. The 'D' section extends the bypass another four miles from just west of N.C. 150 to U.S. 74, and the 'E' section completes the project at U.S. 74 Business in Kings Mountain. Work is anticipated to be complete by winter 2029.
Motorists are encouraged to pay attention, obey the posted speed limit, and allow extra time to reach their destinations safely.
