Rail and Paving Work to Close Portion of U.S. 64 in Davidson County

​LEXINGTON– Beginning Monday​, North Carolina Department of Transportation Davidson County Maintenance crews, in coordination with CSX Railroad, will close a section of East U.S. 64 near Lexington to replace a railroad crossing and pave a new turn lane near Decker Road, weather permitting.

East U.S. 64 will be closed in both directions between Kepley Road and Asheboro Street. Decker Road will also be closed between East U.S. 64 and the railroad tracks. The closure is expected to last five days, with roads anticipated to reopen by Friday, July 18.

During the closure several signed detours will be in place. Standrd vehicles traveling on U.S. 64 should follow the designated detour using Cunningham Road to Cunningham Brick Yard Road. Trucks and heavy vehicles are advised to detour via U.S. 64 to N.C. 109 to I-85 and back to U.S. 64.

For drivers accessing Decker Road, the detour is via Decker Road to Cunningham Road to U.S. 64.

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and follow posted detour signage.
