Burke County Road to Close for Two Days for Pipe Installation

HICKORY – A road near Hickory Regional Airport will close for two days while N.C. Department of Transportation contractors install a pipe.

Contractors will close Ninth Avenue Drive Northwest from Clement Boulevard Northwest to Hickory Airport Road beginning at 7 a.m. Tuesday, July 15. The road will open by 5 p.m. Thursday, July 17.

The road will remain open to local traffic only from Airport Rhodhiss Road to Goat Farm Street and from Clement Boulevard Northwest to the airport. Other traffic will be detoured along Hickory Airport Road, Second Avenue Northwest, Eighth Avenue Northwest and 21st Street Northwest.

Warning signs and message boards will direct drivers in advance of the closure and along the detour while the road is closed.

The pipe installation is part of an ongoing project to widen Ninth Avenue Drive Northwest. Construction began in spring 2024 with completion anticipated in late fall 2026.
