NCDOT Awards Resurfacing Contract for Cumberland County

FAYETTEVILLE – The N.C. Department of Transportation awarded a $2.7 million contract last week to improve thirteen miles of Cumberland County roads.

Highland Paving, a local contractor, will do the work, which will include milling and resurfacing the roads, placing permanent lane markings and, in some cases, widen the roadway to provide for paved shoulders for improved safety.

The following routes will be resurfaced:

  • Raeford Road from U.S. 401 Business to Broadfoot Avenue;
  • Black & Decker Road near Gillespie Street/Interstate95 Business;
  • Portions of Elliot Farm and Elliot Bridge roads north of Fayetteville;
  • John McMillan Road from the Robeson/Cumberland county line to Chicken Foot Road near Hope Mills;
  • Sandclay Road near the Cumberland-Harnett border; and
  • Grimes Road between Stoney Point and Dundle roads.

The contractor can begin work later this fall, and is expected to complete everything by the spring of 2027.
