YADKINVILLE – An N.C. Department of Transportation contractor will close a U.S. 421 on-ramp in Yadkin County this weekend.
Blythe Construction needs to close the on-ramp to U.S. 421 North at U.S. 601 (Exit 257) at 10 p.m. Sunday to replace a large pipe system and drainage structure. The ramp is expected to reopen by 6 a.m. Tuesday.
A signed detour and message boards will guide drivers around the ramp closure and back to U.S. 421 North using Unifi Industrial Drive (Exit 256).
This drainage work is part of the larger project to build roundabouts at the U.S. 421/U.S. 601 interchange in Yadkin County. Blythe Construction, of Charlotte, earned the $19.8 million contract last year.
Roundabouts improve safety and congestion for drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists. NCDOT crash data showed roundabouts reduced fatal and injury crashes by 76%, head-on crashes by 75% and total crashes by 46%.
The entire project should be finished by spring 2028.
