HENDERSONVILLE – Upgrades are coming to one of the most travelled roads in Henderson County.
A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation will begin overnight operations, weather permitting, on Oct. 29 to resurface Church Street (U.S. 25 Business) from Bearcat Boulevard to its southern intersection with Main Street.
Crews from Site Development Corporation of Rutherford County are permitted to close one lane or one block of Church Street from 6 p.m. until 7 a.m., with the exception of holidays or usually heavy traffic days like nights with high school football games.
An average of 14,000 vehicles per day travel on this stretch of Church Street. Signed detours will direct traffic through the closures each night. Main Street and King Street will serve as the alternate detour routes.
The $1.4 million project includes milling out old asphalt, repairing depressions in the roadbed, installing new asphalt, painting new lane markings and upgrading traffic signals. In 2024, the contractor upgraded all curb ramps in this stretch to meet ADA compliance.
All milling and paving operations should be completed by the end of November.
Transportation officials remind motorists to remain alert and slow down near work and school zones and obey all posted traffic signs.
