N.C. Ferry Division to Run Passenger Ferry This Weekend for Ocracoke Pirate Festival

OCRACOKE – The N.C. Department of Transportation's Ferry Division will be running the Ocracoke Express passenger ferry through the weekend to help those who wish to attend Ocracoke's annual Blackbeard's Pirate Jamboree.

Vehicle ferry service between Hatteras and Ocracoke remains suspended due to the closure of N.C. 12 on the north end of Ocracoke Island. The Ocracoke Express bypasses N.C. 12 and delivers passengers directly into Ocracoke Village where the festival is occurring.

The Ocracoke Express will depart Hatteras Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 8:30 a.m., 11 a.m., 1:45 p.m., and 5 p.m. with return trips from Ocracoke's Silver Lake Harbor at 9:45 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 3 p.m., and 7:30 p.m.

Tolls for the Ocracoke Express are $15 for a round-trip ticket. Reservations can be made in person or be calling 1-800-BY-FERRY.

In addition, an evening round trip on the Ocracoke-Swan Quarter vehicle ferry is being added for the weekend. The ferry will depart Ocracoke at 7:30 p.m., and with a return trip from Swan Quarter at 10:30 p.m.

Please visit the N.C. Ferry Division's web page for other departures on the Swan Quarter and Cedar Island ferries that travel into Ocracoke Village.
