The N.C. Department of Transportation will hold a combined public meeting and public hearing for the proposed amendment of the Shocco Creek State Dedicated Nature Preserve located in Halifax County.
The proposed project is needed to replace a structurally deficient bridge on N.C. 561 over Fishing Creek. The bridge, which is safe for travel but has aging components that require replacement, will be replaced using a temporary bridge adjacent to the existing bridge. Construction of the temporary bridge will require use of land currently owned by the nature preserve.

The purpose of this meeting is to inform the public of the proposed project and gather input on the proposed design. The public can view project information, submit comments and receive email updates at
NCDOT's public input portal.
Public Comment
NCDOT representatives will be available to answer questions and receive comments. The comments and information received will be taken into consideration as work on the project develops.
