Department of Transportation proposes to replace the bridge on U.S. 76 (Andrew Jackson Highway SW) over the Gapway Swamp in Columbus County, near the South Carolina border. The purpose of this project is to provide a safer crossing over Gapway Swamp on U.S. 76. While being maintained for safety, the existing bridge has become structurally deficient and is approaching the end of its functional life.Due to COVID-19, NCDOT will not host an in-person public meeting for this project. However, the public is invited to visit NCDOT's public input portal and submit comments.
