A team of engineering firms, led by NV5 Engineers and Consultants, is under contract to conduct project development and environmental studies, which are being led by the N.C. Department of Transportation and the S.C. Department of Transportation in cooperation with local, state and federal agencies in both states.
Project development and environmental studies are underway to evaluate potential corridors for the roadway from an engineering and environmental standpoint and to select a preferred route.
SCDOT's 2017-2022 State Transportation Improvement Program includes the purchase of property for the extension of Carolina Bays Parkway from S.C. 9 to the North Carolina state line beginning in 2022. Right-of-way acquisition for the North Carolina portion is not currently funded. The extension is not yet programmed for construction.
