Why did the location of the protected corridor change?
The location and size of the protected corridor has increased and decreased in certain areas along the remaining sections of the Greensboro Urban loop. These changes are a result of NCDOT's continuing efforts to refine the proposed design to avoid and minimize impacts to the environment while also meeting the future transportation demands along the corridor.
Why did the number of proposed lanes increase?
Originally, the Greensboro Urban Loop was proposed as a four-lane highway (two lanes in each direction) from U.S. 70 westward to Bryan Boulevard near Piedmont Triad International Airport. The current design calls for adding another lane in each direction, making the segment a six-lane highway from the proposed interchange with U.S. 29 westward to the interchange with Bryan Boulevard near Piedmont Triad International Airport.
Since the planning and environmental studies were completed in the mid-1990s, growth has increased in northern Greensboro. When NCDOT updated the traffic model for the project, the number of vehicles predicted to be using this part of the Greensboro Urban Loop increased, which required adding an extra lane in each direction along this part of the project.
The current design for the segment from U.S. 70 to U.S. 29 remains unchanged and will be constructed as a four-lane highway (two lanes in each direction).

Where will the noise walls be located?
Noise walls are proposed along portions of the Greensboro Urban Loop between Old Battleground Road and Lawndale Drive. Please see Corridor Public Meeting Map Sheet 2 to view these locations.
