The project team has been collecting information about the U.S 21 Widening project area, including existing and projected traffic volumes, natural resources, community features, and existing and proposed land uses.
​Based on this information, the project team, in coordination with town officials from Huntersville and Cornelius, has developed and evaluated 4-lane and 6-lane alternatives with various intersection configurations. Ultimately a 4-lane section with innovative intersection designs was selected to move forward.
