Project Overview
Planning and development are underway to replace three bridges that connect Wrightsville Beach in New Hanover County. While all three bridges remain safe, they are nearing the end of their life cycle and must be monitored, inspected and maintained on a more frequent basis.
The two bridges along West Salisbury Street (U.S. 74) that cross Lees Cut and Banks Channel and the South Banks Channel Bridge on Causeway Drive (U.S. 76) will be replaced with new structures.
These three bridges are vital to the residents of Wrightsville Beach, vacationers and the tourism industry because they provide direct access to and from the area.
As of July 2025, the proposed project is currently in anticipated design build (one contractor provides both design and construction services with the anticipation of a more collaborative and cost-effective project).
