Mitch Colvin joined the N.C. Board of Transportation in September 2026 and represents Division 6.
Colvin, who was first elected the mayor of Fayetteville in 2017, was re-elected to a fifth term in 2025. Prior to being elected mayor, he served on the Fayetteville City Council, including as mayor pro tem.
As mayor, his vision for the city has included building a viable workforce, investing in infrastructure and expanding the city’s connection to the global economy. Colvin’s priorities for Fayetteville include reducing poverty and homelessness, increasing affordable housing and investing in streets, sidewalks and the stormwater system.
In 1995 at the age of 21, Colvin assumed the operational leadership of Colvin Funeral Home Inc. in Fayetteville. Today, he leads Colvin Funeral Home and Crematory, helping residents in their time of need.
A native of Fayetteville, Colvin has been a vocal advocate working with locally elected officials to help expunge the record of non-violent felons in Cumberland County. He places a priority on mental health awareness and initiatives for residents in need.
In addition to his appointment with the N.C. Board of Transportation, Colvin has also served as the commissioner of the Governor’s Racial Equity Task Force and on the N.C. Crime Commission. He has been the city’s representative on the Fayetteville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, and on the U.S. Conference of Mayors and the N.C. Mayors Coalition.
