  • How long does it take to receive my registration, title and license plate?

Most customers receive their registration, title and license plate in the mail within 20 business days. If more than 20 business days have passed, do not order a duplicate. Instead, you should first fill out and submit the form below so we can look into it for you.

  • Why do my title and plate numbers not match?

If you recently completed a title transaction, such as paying off a loan, you may have been issued a new title number. This number will not match the one previously associated with your plate. Try entering the new title number when completing your transaction. If you still receive an error message, please fill out and submit the Contact Us form below.

If you recently purchased a new vehicle and transferred your existing license plate to that vehicle, you may also receive an error message when attempting to renew online. In that case, please contact NCDMV by submitting the Contract Us form below.

  • I tried to renew my registration online, but it says my license plate number and title number do not match. What should I do?

If you are unable to renew your registration online because of an incorrect title number, it usually means your title number changed after your renewal notice was printed. This frequently happens if you recently paid off a loan, in which case you would have been issued a new title number.

You can look up your new title number by logging into MyDMV. Once you have the correct title number, try renewing online again. If you continue to receive an error message, please fill out and submit the form below.
