Public to Provide Input on Proposed Widening Project in Green and Lenoir Counties

U.S. 258 to be widened between C.F. Harvey Parkway and Browntown Road

LA GRANGE— A key transportation improvement project is on its way to parts of Greene and Lenoir County, as planning is under way to widen 4.3 miles of U.S. 258 between the C.F. Harvey Parkway and a half-mile south of Browntown Road.

The Eastern Carolina Rural Planning Organization (RPO) submitted the U.S. 258 Widening Project to NCDOT to be considered for funding. Through the Strategic Mobility Formula that prioritizes projects based on safety, congestion, benefit-cost and local priorities, it scored well enough to be funded at the division level because of that strong support from the RPO.

Final plans for the project are not set, so the meeting is a chance for area residents and business owners to provide input to help shape the connector’s final design.

Transportation officials will present preliminary concepts on the improvements to U.S. 258 at a public meeting from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., on Tuesday, July 10, at the North Lenoir High School Cafeteria, located at 2400 Institute Road near La Grange. In advance of the meeting, area residents can also view a public meetings website.

Interested residents may attend at any time during the meeting, as no formal presentation will be made. NCDOT representatives will be available to provide information and answer questions. The opportunity to provide written comments will also be provided.

If someone is unable to attend the meeting, they can still get project information or provide comments by contacting Rachelle Beauregard, NCDOT Division 2 Project Manager, at 919- 239-7168 or rlbeauregard@ncdot.gov .  All comments received by July 31 will be considered as the DOT refines the design proposal.

NCDOT will provide auxiliary aids and services under the Americans with Disabilities Act for disabled persons who wish to participate in this meeting. Anyone requiring special services should contact Caitlyn Ridge, at Ceridge1@ncdot.gov or 919-707-6091 as early as possible so that arrangements can be made.

Persons who speak Spanish and have a limited ability to read, speak or understand English may receive interpretive services upon request prior to the meeting by calling 1-800-481-6494.
