Public Meeting for Proposed Interchange Reconstruction in High Point

Public Meeting for Proposed Interchange Reconstruction in High Point

   Project Vicinity Area

HIGH POINT – Transportation officials are inviting the public to participate in a community meeting on Tuesday, July 31, regarding a proposal to reconstruct a portion of U.S. 29-70/I-85 Business and replace the existing bridge over South Main Street in High Point.

The High Point Metropolitan Planning Organization along with division staff submitted the project for consideration through the Strategic Mobility Formula that prioritizes projects based on safety, congestion, benefit-cost and local priorities.

“The project will ultimately improve safety, traffic flow and reduce traffic congestion as the ramps do not meet current national and NCDOT standards for the length of acceleration and deceleration at interchanges,” said Board of Transportation Chairman Michael Fox.

The public can view maps displaying the location and design of the project on the NCDOT public meeting website.

The meeting will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. at the High Point Theater, 220 East Commerce Avenue.

NCDOT engineers and consultants will be on hand to gather public input on the proposed design and answer questions about the project. A map of the study area, environmental features and proposed designs will be presented. Attendees will also have the opportunity to submit written comments and questions, and they will also be accepted via mail/email until Tuesday, Aug. 14.
