I-40 Lane Closures for Median Repairs

WINSTON-SALEM – Median wall repairs began today on Interstate 40 East at the 193 mile marker, and will require a series of lane closures. The initial closure is the left lane closest to the median, and it is expected to be in place for about four weeks.

Starting next week, the work will move to overnight hours, with both the left lane and the lane next to it closed, as well as the westbound lane next to the median. The closures are needed to allow crews to safely work next to traffic.

The final two weeks of work will return to daytime hours, with the left eastbound lane remaining closed, as well as the left westbound lane. The project is expected to wrap up by Sept. 21.

Since the closures are on the left side of the road in each direction, the work should not interfere with the I-40/US 52 interchange.

Drivers are urged to slow down and pay extra attention when approaching the work zone for their own safety, as well as of any of their passengers or occupants of other vehicles, and for workers next to the highway. They should also anticipate possible slower traffic through the area, depending on the time of day.
