Nightly Rolling Roadblocks on Westbound I-40

RALEIGH – Work that is part of the improvements project for the Aviation Parkway exit at Interstate 40 will require nightly slow-rolling roadblocks on the westbound portion of the interstate.

Starting nightly at 7 p.m., Monday thru Thursday for about 15 days, crews will be excavating rock to allow for grading required of the new ramp loop structures. Some of the work will involve blasting to loosen the rock, so for about 20 minutes, the slow-rolling roadblocks will keep motorists a safe distance away.

Work began on the new interchange this past May and is moving along at its scheduled progression, with utility relocation and installation taking place as the excavation moves forward.

The new ramp and bridge are expected to be open in September 2020, with additional vegetation work going until March 2021.

Like many similar projects, the schedule and timing of the excavation and rolling roadblocks will be weather dependent.
