Rolling Roadblocks Next Two Weekends for Overhead Work in Greensboro

Rolling Roadblocks Next Two Weekends for Overhead Work in Greensboro
GREENSBORO - Motorists traveling along Interstate 85 and I-73 will encounter a series of rolling roadblocks throughout the day on the next two Sundays while utility contract crews remove and replace overhead transmission lines.

“The intermittent closures are needed for the safety of workers and drivers as crews will be taking down and installing power lines that weigh hundreds of pounds,” said NCDOT District Engineer Bobby Norris.

The roadblocks will take place in both directions at the following locations in Greensboro:

  • I-85 between mile markers 116 and 118 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sep. 30
  • I-73 between mile markers 89 and 94 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7

A rolling roadblock is a method of temporary traffic control that is used to slow or stop traffic as a means of keeping vehicles away from an active work site on the highway.

While these portions of highway will not completely close, drivers are reminded to obey the posted speed limit and allow extra time to reach their destinations safely.
