Public Meeting Scheduled for Grade-Separated Rail Crossing in Cary

CARY – The N.C. Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting this week regarding the proposed project to construct a grade separation of the Northeast Maynard Road rail crossing of the Norfolk Southern/N.C. Railroad Line and CSX Line, replacing the existing at-grade crossing in Cary.

The project rose through the State Transportation Improvements Program based on a need to eliminate rail-highway conflicts at the existing at-grade railroad crossing location on Northeast Maynard Road near its intersection with East Chatham Street. The proposed project is designed to improve vehicular mobility and safety at the location and surrounding area.

Maps of the proposed designs of the improvements can be found at https://www.ncdot.gov/news/public-meetings/Documents/P-5718_Maynard_Rd_Func_Workshop_Exhibit_2018_09_19.pdf.

The meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 16, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Herbert C. Young Community Center, Meeting Room B, 101 Wilkinson Avenue in Cary. Interested residents may attend at any time during the meeting hours, as no formal presentation will be made.

NCDOT representatives will be available to answer questions and listen to comments regarding the project. Comments may also be submitted via email or phone by October 31. Comments received will be taken into consideration as the project develops.
